Road win for the Dogs

The Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs enjoyed a day out in Essex. It was a Dogs v Raiders match up and another exciting encounter on the ice.

Zimozdra and Gray were the starting netminders.

The first period got off to a flying start for the Steeldogs as Brown opened the scoring on 0:38. The Raiders didn’t dilly dally equalising, Sylvester scoring the equalising goal. The Steeldogs got their heads back in front as Danecek got the first of his three goals at 3:39. Sheffield looked commanding in the period, going into the break 1-2 up.

Danecek started the second period with an early goal on 23:42 and again the Dogs controlled the game until Scott got a goal back for the Raiders on a power play. Sheffield regrouped and built up momentum with some thrilling offence which was rewarded as Danecek scored his third goal, sneaking between the glove and the pipe. Despite having to kill a lot of penalties, the Dogs remained focused and committed and didn’t let the home team get into their stride.

The Raiders were 2-4 down starting the final session and mounted a comeback; pushing the Dogs back into their own zone. Piatak was rewarded for his persistence with the Raiders third goal, hitting back during a rare Dogs power play. Sheffield kicked on and kept charging on the break. There were chances at both ends in frantic final 10 minutes but ultimately Nathan Salem was on hand to score the 5th goal with just over a minute remaining.

A well deserved win on the road for the Steeldogs in a tough rink. A man of the match award for Jan Danecek (Sponsored by Northern Groundcare) and a satisfying journey home on the bus for the whole team.

Join Ben and the boys tomorrow for another meeting between the Steeldogs and Lightning. Should be another thrilling performance for the Dogs, they’ve got the bit between their teeth right now and are keen to keep their results going against MK. The game begins at 4:30pm, we hope to see you there.
