View from the South – Peterborough Phantoms
Dan Breen from Pro Hockey News is back with the run down on our next opponents, the Peterborough Phantoms.
Head Coach: Slava Koulikov
Home Rink: Planet Ice Peterborough
Last Season: 2nd NIHL 1 South, Winners: South Cup, Autumn Cup, NIHL1 South Play Offs
League Form: 5th place, 3 wins and 3 losses.
The Peterborough Phantoms count last year as a success. A few dropped results cost the team the league title, however their excellent run of form was only halted in overtime at Coventry by the Hull Pirates. This summer saw the team re-sign en masse losing just one player in the end - forward James White.
The Phantoms under coach Koulikov are a clinical side, some might say dull, however they have one of the best power play units and amongst the best penalty kill teams in the league. This season, with a couple of additions from the NIHL2 side, the Phantoms have found a new edge to their game as shown against Basingstoke at home a few weeks back.
The danger men from the Phantoms will continue to be the Padelek, Billing, Ferrara line, however the McEwen, Susters, Stepanek line are hot on their heels. While not as skilled as Kieran Brown, Jarvis Hunt is rapidly making a name for himself as a hard hitting forward, and the 4th line have popped up with some important goals.
The Phantoms defence will not be a simple proposition either, with Norton, Robson, R Ferrara and Callum Buglass rounded out with Nathan Long and U18 D Man Brad Bowering, Steeldogs will need to turn up the speed for this game.
Top scorer: Petr Stepanek – 5 goals and 4 assists after 6 games
