Steeldogs 4-1 Raiders IHC

After a disappointing result the previous night it was time to put things right and the Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs had a thorough work out against the Raiders IHC.

Zimozdra and Gray were the starting net minders and were going to be key to the result.

The game started with some excellent offensive play from both teams, the Raiders played with good energy and were difficult to deal with on the break. The Steeldogs were more patient and carved out the clearer chances. Many of the National Division games had yielded high scores and it seemed a long time before the first goal went in, but getting the Dogs off the mark was Alex Graham, with assists from his line mates Salem and Brown at 7:48. During the first period the Dogs were relentless once they got in their stride and took a shoot on sight policy. Michael Gray had plenty of work and got good use out of his equipment. At the other end, Dmitri Zimozdra stood firm. 1-0 at the end of the period.

The second period began and the momentum swung a little more in favour of the Raiders, who had some long periods of possession. But a controlled defensive display by Sheffield kept the score for the visitors at 0. In the last minute of the period the Steeldogs added a power play goal courtesy of Vladimir Luka, assisted Morgan and Brown. 2-0 to the Steeldogs going into the break.

The Raiders came out in the third with more determination and worked, worked and worked for their goal. Sylvester scored for the visitors and this added a little more edge to the game. The margin was so close, the play was exciting with end to end, high paced hockey - this was a great game to watch for the spectators. The tension in the game built up, both teams being creative and positive in their play. The Steeldogs just had the edge in the last five minutes of the game as Nathan Salem scored a delightful goal on 54:40, assisted Morgan and Cochrane. Vladimir Luka didn’t want to miss out on the scoring and just 30 seconds later added the Steeldogs 4th, assisted Brownley and Morgan.

End of the game and the result went in favour of the Steeldogs 4-1

Man of the match awards were presented to both net minders, Gray and the Tasca Tankers sponsored Dmitri Zimozdra deserved their plaudits tonight.
