After an exhausting game on Saturday, the Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs laced up the skates again and took to the ice against the in form Basingstoke Bison. Scott Morris and Ryan Johnson were added to the roster from the Sting. Zimozdra and Mettam were the starting net minders for the game.

Sheffield came out from the get go with intent and force. Steelpup Jack Brammer scored the first goal of the game and also enjoyed the celebrations for his first goal for the Steeldogs. This gave the whole bench momentum. The following shifts were full of energy and purpose, Mettam was underfire through the first ten minutes. During a power play Tim Smith scored and extended the lead for the Dogs. From here through to the period break it was all Dogs, Dogs, Dogs. 2-0

For the second period there was a pulling up of the socks from the Bison to rise up to the competition level of the Steeldogs. But Sheffield had another gear right at the start and Jan Danecek added a third for the Steeldogs. This saw the end of Mettam in goal. Weller Evans took his place between the pipes. Talbot responded quickly for Basingstoke and this injected a little positivity for the Herd. The Steeldogs had another injury during the game when Relf was hit into the boards by Norris, who was punished with 2+10, with Relf’s night finished.

The Bison settled more into their game and made Zimozdra work much harder to stave off the constant danger of their forwards who sensed more goal action. Another flash point came on 30 minutes when Brammer and Morris exchanged blows and both were dispatched for fighting and cross checking. The period closed out with the Bison enjoying a little more possession and many more shots on goal. 3-1

The final period saw the Steeldogs making sure of the points and playing a sensible game, defending resolutely against wave after wave of Bison attacks. With the clock beginning to tick down, Luka added a security goal in the 56thminute. Bison added a second with 5 seconds left, Klejna with the late goal.

Result: Sheffield Steeldogs 4 – 2 Basingstoke Bison

Man of the match awards were presented to Adam Harding and Jack Brammer (sponsored by Sheffield Mutual Friendly Society).
